Another adventure begins!

HELLO........CIAO......DOBER DAN........DOBAR DAN!

Tomorrow, May 12th, Robin and I are away on another adventure. This spring we will be away for five weeks, visiting Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

In Italy we will be spending one week in Rome staying in an apartment in the Trastevere area, which means "across the Tiber" and is described as the former working-class ghetto. It is said that this area has retained its medieval character better than any part of Rome. Robin's sister Suzanne and her husband Colin, who live in England,  will be joining us in Rome for a few days, so we are looking forward to seeing them

Then, onto Venice by high speed train where we will spend four days. We have opted to stay on the island of Guidecca, which is located in the Venetian Lagoon, across from the main tourist island.

We will rent a car as we are leaving Venice, and on the advice of friends, we will spend five days in the Lake Garda area, which is at the foot of the Dolomites and only a couple of hours almost due west of Venice. We have rented an apartment here as well, which is located in the small town of Peschiera del Garda at the south end of Lake Garda.

Then, off to Slovenia. We were originally simply going to drive through Slovenia to get to Croatia, but during my research I found out that Slovenia has lots to offer. The guide books say that Slovenia is "one of Europe's most unexpectedly charming destinations". So what the heck, might as well check it out. We will be spending three nights in Bled, which is located on a lake and we hope to do some hiking in the area. Then onto Ljubljana, the capital. It is described as a City with "a lazy Old Town clustered around a castle-topped mountain and is likened to Salzburg.

Croatia beckons. We will spend time in Rovinj, which is located on the Adriatic Sea in the Trieste Peninsula, then onto Plitvice National Park, where we hope to do some hiking. Back to the coast to spend time in Split, the islands of Hvar and Korcula, then the last few days in Dobrovnik.

Let the adventure begin!
